A Father’s Sorrow

He buries himself in war’s past

From my father’s photography collection. Edited by Mark Tulin

A father disjointed
Shattered
Gaunt and sunken
A Cubist
A Picasso
Innocence broken

A crow’s injured wing
A bleeding arrowhead
An exploded hand-grenade
Angels and demons
All wearing uniforms

He buries himself
In the past
And lives
At a cross
Of decimation

His gravestone
Is prematurely inscribed —
A martyr
Lost in the web
Of politics
And sorrow.
