BLUE COLLAR VERSE
A Token of My Appreciation
To the full-service movers of the world
The movers wore sacral belts,
and hauled the furniture
with hand-trucks.
They pulled the beds apart,
and wrapped dishes and glassware
in bubble wrap.
They were cautious
about carrying the big stuff
and didn't block traffic
or waste time
at the sub shop,
and only took water breaks
when their lips were parched.
I watched the movers with awe
as they loaded and unloaded.
A mover's mission is sacred,
navigating tight spaces and steep stairs,
a heavy sofa to be lifted,
carried and carefully placed
while being instructed.
I trusted them with my possessions
with the hope they would leave no holes
in the freshly painted walls,
or scratches on my Vizio screen.
And when the job was over,
I gave them my full approval
and a token of my appreciation
for all their backbreaking work.
