EKPHRASIS POEM

An Inner Andy Warhol

With music by Chick Corea

The photo was taken in Santa Barbara by the author, Mark Tulin

Interesting, yet grotesque
hungry, yet sill
a baby doll whose head
stuck in a perfume bottle
its fragrance, surreal

It’s a witness
to great anti-art
chaotic and experimental
full of strange lies
and the misdeeds
of the bizarre

It’s androgynous
ancient and fertile
deranged, yet able
to bear cryptic messages
on the walls
of prehistoric dens

It grows from the weeds
springs from the trees
it makes all puzzles
unsolvable
all reason laughable
all crows, beautiful
and genteel

It wears shades to conceal
its vacant stare
baldness of head
dismembered soul
skin tone of plastic
and an inner Andy Warhol

It embraces
the abundance,
of life’s outrageous
juxtapose.

I wrote this poem gazing at the above photo and listening to Chick Corea’s fine album Return to Forever.
