Comparing the Narcissist with a Flower

Or human misery versus nature’s humility

A narcissist and a flower come together
for an awkward moment

Loud and obnoxious is the narcissist —
quiet and unobtrusive, the flower grows

One breeds human misery,
and the other represents nature’s humility

The flower says: I’d rather be replanted
than catch a drift from an egotist

The narcissist responds: I hold the key
to torture others for an eternity

The flower wonders: why can’t the self-centered
bloom like a daffodil or rise above the soil?

Why does the narcissist have to cut down trees
for progress and personal legacy?

Why does the braggart put footprints in cement
and engrave his name on walls?

Why can’t the vain and selfish be more like flowers?
Add fragrance and color to the world.
