Give the Mind a Break

One wave at a time

Multi-tasking
Operating on autopilot.
Eyes red from lack of sleep
when energy drinks
don’t give me a jolt.

Stumbling through the day.
The more I move forward,
the more backward I go.
I’m on a reverse escalator
in a department store.

Dreams, I try to chase.
Chores I’ve yet to do.
Not enough hours in a day.
I’m on a spinning wheel
that never stops.

My life will return
once I cross things out,
give the mind a break,
ease off on the guilt trip,
slow down my inner thoughts,
so I can remember
what I’m struggling for.

Being in balance
and having a focal point,
unplug
from the power surge,
saying no
instead of yes,
putting ME at the top of the list.

Take advice with a grain of salt
to clear a frazzled brain,
have a seat
by the ocean’s edge,
and focus on one wave
then the next.
