In the gym of the unattainable

A reflection of life,
a modern-day parable
through distorted mirrors
with bloated faces,
musclebound bodies
in trendy outfits
that barely fit into their inflated egos.

Gym rats and narcissists,
six packs and steely lats,
pumping and jerking,
groaning and moaning,
squatting and deadlifting,
masters of the stairs
but amateurs on the ground.

Superman and Wonder Woman,
Spider-Man and The Flash,
a club full of Schwarzenegger hacks
admiring their bulging pride,
flexing their vanity,
while underestimating their real strengths —
the power they have inside.

Only fools yearn for perfection
in a gym of the unattainable,
pounding the heavy ball on the floor,
a sweat-pouring spinning ride,
a sociopathic trainer who pushes a woman
to the killer extreme,
a mindless performance-enhancing
steroid dream.
