Mountaintop of Freedom

Where one could find the sublime

I gaze upon the mountaintops
at Yosemite
Its rocks resemble
jagged teeth
that surrounds the landscape
like guardian lions
protecting the Forbidden City

I know why climbers
scale the highest mountains
I know why they
risk their lives
trying to reach the summit

It’s not about
conquering
the unconquerable
or standing alone
in victory
or raising the glory
of their national flag

There is peace
above the mist
where the air is fresh
the mind is clear
where time stops
and the world slows

It’s a privilege
to be so close
to the moon, the sun
and the sky
You can hear
the Great Spirit’s
whispering wind
