I never look directly into the sun,
for I know that my eyes will burn
from its powerful rays.

Instead, I walk toward the light,
not away from it like others
who find comfort in the dark.

When I see the sky’s glowing orb
in shades of yellow and white,
I know the Universe is smiling.

I can sense its quiet strength,
its life-giving force,
a star that saves my planet.

I feel the energy of my youth,
the joy of jumping waves,
and the laughter of the gulls.

Its light glistens off the sand,
splinters through the palms,
and reflects off snowy mountaintops.

The warmth of wisdom.
An honesty that doesn’t deceive.
A breath of truth at the altar of the sea.

I walk toward courage,
toward rebirth,
toward enlightenment.
