Normal Sucks
But not for most people
Normal is insidious,
roots itself in routine,
taught in schools
and civilized societies,
and rises with the sun
in its day and night redundancy.
Normal is well-groomed,
packed tightly in suitcases,
socks correctly rolled in balls
and clothes neatly folded
without wrinkles.
Normal is acceptable,
well-liked, amiable
with no feathers ruffled
and bookshelves dusted
and nice to see you again
and other worn-out phrases.
Normal goes to church,
sings its prescribed hymns,
and greets its peers with hugs
and never disturbs the neighbors
with loud music
or sudden movements.
Normal wears dark suits
and plain-colored dresses.
It is highly appropriate,
walks with a precise gait,
picks up its trash,
cleans off its steps,
celebrates all the holidays,
and never challenges the norm
or goes out on a limb.
